Nissan’s Leaf is the Green Leap in Automotive Industry

Gone are the days when electric vehicles were used for small torque and speed applications as this race inspired NISMO would take your breaths away within seconds. Nissan’s continuous efforts on building a zero emission vehicle and a motive to emerge as a prominent leader in this category has lead to development of this masterpiece which weighs just 938 kg and can reach 62mph merely in 6.85 seconds. This new Nissan Leaf NISMO has shorter wheelbase (2 cm long and 17 cm wide) with lowest ground clearance of just 6.1 cm which makes this car a complete RC (Racing Competition) package. The 48 modules of lithium ion battery along with the inverter installed in a mid-ship position assist the 80 kW AC motor to develop a whooping power of 107 hp and a torque of 280 Nm while requires hardly 30 minutes to recharge back to almost 80% of the full capacity.

Using carbon-fiber body with no rear doors and seats and an extended tail has helped this NISMO Leaf to reach a maximum speed of 150km/h while remaining stable and sticking to the track during tests. Nissan confirms that NISMO can perform on the race tracks consistently for 20 minutes when fully charged. Since NISMO is 100% electric, oxygen is not a necessity even while moving over high altitudes where internal combustion engines struggles to find proper oxygen due to a degrading density.

Is this an answer to the famous and reliable combustion engines that power today’s sports cars? NISMO might not last longer on race tracks but it would surely give rise to a new revolution in car racing strategies. In fact the revolution has already begun with electric racing initiated by Nissan where it’s first zero emission car Leaf became victorious. With such great innovations in automotive technology of Nissan auto parts and internal combustion engine has now questioned the existence of conventional auto engine operations in automotive field for the great future.

A time is not so far away when these noisy polluting conventional combustion engines would extinct even from the racing cars that need powerful speed and torque as cars like Leaf NISMO will fulfill the needs of these cars without actually damaging the environment. This innovative NISMO is still being tested at different tracks to improve its performance capabilities but is set to debut soon in September 2011 at the New York International Auto Show as Nissan plans to go green these coming years.
